Bangalore, (May 10, 2020), Dipnanda Bhaduri Roy’s debut novel, I am in Love with a Shudh Desi Firangi, has been surfacing time and again with Amazon and Goodreads ratings going over 50.
This contemporary romance novel was published a few months back, owing to its spiritual connection in the form of Shiva-Parvati romance aspect; it has been shot into Amazon Bestseller charts many a time in couple of months.
The novel is placed against the traditional backdrop of Kolkata and the multi-cultural Goa. It dives into a world of simple and sober Bengali girl Kattyayni who looks for an elusive love story, but much to her dismay she is rendered heartbroken just before her exams when her boyfriend chooses someone else.
In Kattyani’s view love is pure and should hold Shiva-Parvati type chemistry. She idolizes Shiva and expects her would-be husband be like that: full of Shiva-like virtues.
In Goa, she stumbles upon a foreigner named Rudra, half American and half Spanish. His attitude, behaviour, and way of temperament reflect traits of Shiva. Kattyani falls in love with him almost at the first sight…but well before they could be one, they have to cross the toughest barrier: traditional Indian society.
In one of the interviews, Dipnanda Roy states, ‘I was looking to write a story with a hero who will have a strong presence of Lord Shiva in him. I was looking to create a sort of a modern-day Shiva-Parvati romance and what resulted was ‘I am in love with a Shuddh Desi Firangi: Hey Shiva, I see You in Him’.
