Sensex Closes 355 Points Higher As Markets Rise For Third Straight Day

Domestic stock markets extended gains to a third straight day on Wednesday, despite nervousness across global equities amid uncertainty around the outcome of US presidential elections with no clear winner yet in sight. The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 432.38 points – or 1.07 per cent – to touch 40,693.51 at the strongest level of the day, and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark climbed to as high as 11,920.70, up 107.2 points – or 0.91 per cent – from its previous close. Both indices briefly slid to the negative territory in afternoon deals, before pushing higher again.
