Sensex Gains Over 200 Points, Nifty Above 11,850 Led By IT, Pharma Shares

Domestic stock markets started Wednesday's session on a positive note despite a cautious trend across Asian equities, as first results from the US presidential election showed a close race with no clear winner yet in sight. The S&P BSE Sensex rose 399.09 points – or 0.99 per cent – to 40,660.22 at the strongest level recorded in early deals, and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark climbed to as high as 11,920.70, up 107.2 points – or 0.91 per cent – from its previous close. Buying interest in IT and pharmaceutical shares pushed the markets higher, however selling pressure in banking and financial services stocks limited the upside.
